ISLAND JOURNEYS:
EXPLORING THE LEGACY OF FRANCE
A Collection of Travel Essays by Patti M. Marxsen
Many of us have a passion for islands, for the space around them, for the sound of water, for the sense of being away from the chaos of the modern world. But islands are not simply escapes... they are complex places steeped in culture and history. These essays explore seven islands in multiple dimensions.

TALES FROM THE HEART OF HAITI
A Collection of Short Stories by Patti M. Marxsen
Has been selected as one of six finalists for the PARIS PRIZE. The winner of this award for a novel or short story collection not yet published in book form will be announced in July 2008 at the Paris Writers Workshop, the oldest continuously running literary event in France.
The eight "tales" grew out of Patti's deep interest in the history and culture of Haiti and focus on what she calls the "fragile connections" that hold Haitian society together. For over a decade, Patti was associated with Hospital Albert Schweitzer in the Artibonite Valley of Haiti.
